But do not let this one thing escape you, beloved, that one day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

Theological correction (God's reckoning of time)δὲEchoing v.5's 'escapes them,' Peter turns to the beloved: do not let this escape you. Psalm 90:4 reframes the delay: divine time is not human time. The apparent slowness is no measure of God's faithfulness.

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard, lest, carried away by the error of the lawless, you fall from your own steadfastness;
