Revelation 14 — clausal layoutΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΨΙΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΟΥ ΙΔ′

Each line is one clause or discrete phrase of the standard critical text, colored by syntactic type; indentation marks levels of subordination. The verse numbers sit in the left gutter; the small tag on each line names the clause type and its function.

independentparticipialrelativepurposecausecomparativecontentconditionalphrase modifierdashed = verbless / suspended

Flush-left = a main (independent) clause. Each dependent line begins directly beneath the word it attaches to in the line above — the anchor word is dotted-underlined, and lights up when you hover its dependent clause; each tag also names the attachment. A dashed border marks verbless, elliptical, or suspended lines. Where a long sentence's staircase runs wider than the page, the diagram scrolls sideways. (In print, or without JavaScript, lines fall back to stepped indent columns.)

Analysis. Revelation 14 is three visions in a row, and the shape gives each its own texture. The Zion tableau (vv. 1–5) opens on the book's Καὶ εἶδον, καὶ ἰδού formula — two flush-left purple lines, the Lamb and the 144,000 presented verbless — then descends through the heaven-voice's three dashed ὡς-comparisons into the οὗτοι identity-column of vv. 4–5, four flush-left declarations answering the question the census of ch. 7 left open. The three angels (vv. 6–13) are three matched columns: each ἄλλον ἄγγελον line drops through a speech-participle into blue quoted content — the eternal gospel's three imperatives with their ὅτι-ground, Babylon's Ἔπεσεν ἔπεσεν (Isa 21:9), and the third angel's full judgment-oracle, where the double εἴ-τις protasis leans forward on the apodotic-καί verdict καὶ αὐτὸς πίεται and the smoke-oracle of v. 11 is kept inside the angel's own speech, its double subject (the worshipers, and whoever takes the mark) hanging under οὐκ ἔχουσιν. The harvest diptych (vv. 14–20) repeats one skeleton twice — tableau/angel, quoted sickle-command with ὅτι-ground, terse execution — grain first, vintage second, ending in the winepress lines and the two dashed measures of the blood (bridle-deep, 1,600 stadia). Interpretive choices: the singers of the new song (v. 3) are read as the heavenly voice of v. 2, the 144,000 being its only learners; παρθένοι (v. 4) is flagged as cultic-fidelity metaphor, not celibacy legislation; v. 12 stands outside the quotation as the seer's own seal (as at 13:10); ἀπ᾽ ἄρτι (v. 13) is read with the dying, not the blessing; ἵνα ἀναπαήσονται takes a future indicative and is tagged; and the solecisms — the hanging ἔχων of v. 14, the masculine τὸν μέγαν against τὴν ληνόν in v. 19 — are kept and flagged, not corrected.
