Revelation 7 — clausal layoutΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΨΙΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΟΥ Ζ′

The same clause-by-clause layout, line-aligned with the Greek edition: each line renders one clause or discrete phrase, colored by the Greek clause's syntactic type, with indentation marking levels of subordination.

independentparticipialrelativepurposecausecontentconditionalphrase modifierdashed = verbless / suspended

Flush-left = a main (independent) clause. Each dependent line begins directly beneath the word it attaches to in the line above — the anchor word is dotted-underlined, and lights up when you hover its dependent clause; each tag also names the attachment. A dashed border marks verbless, elliptical, or suspended lines. Where a long sentence's staircase runs wider than the page, the diagram scrolls sideways. (In print, or without JavaScript, lines fall back to stepped indent columns.)

Analysis. Revelation 7 is Semitic parataxis made visible: nearly every sentence enters flush-left on καί, and the chapter's paired visions (vv. 1–3, 9–12) each descend from a purple εἶδον through short participial steps into quoted speech rather than periodic subordination. The census (vv. 4–8) is the shape at its starkest — twelve verbless roll-call lines hanging as one dashed column under 'the sealed' of v. 4, Judah first, Dan silently replaced by Manasseh, Levi mustered with the rest. The two acclamations (vv. 10, 12) and the elder's whole answer (vv. 14b–17) stand as blue quoted-content columns under their speech verbs, the answer closing in an Isaiah 49:10 promise-column grounded by a single ὅτι — the shepherd Lamb — and sealed with Isa 25:8. Interpretive choices the layout takes a side on: the pleonastic αὐτοῖς (v. 2) and αὐτόν (v. 9) are flagged as Semitic resumptive pronouns, not errors; the v. 9 case discords (nominative ἑστῶτες and φοίνικες beside accusative περιβεβλημένους) are read as constructio ad sensum and tagged line by line; ἄχρι σφραγίσωμεν (v. 3) is treated as a backward-leaning temporal limit anchored on the prohibition; and καὶ ἐξαλείψει (v. 17) is kept inside the ὅτι-ground, so that God's tear-wiping is the final clause of the elder's own sentence.
